How to feel 100 percent

By Cory Quirino

“Let me do to you what spring does to cherry trees.” —Pablo Neruda

Renewal leads to a new lease on life. And the hope of becoming cherry trees and for a new blossoming.
But we need to feel in tip-top shape.

Most people will admit they do not feel 100 percent. The question is, what are we doing to ourselves to feel less than complete?
Though some people would be happy to get 80-90 percent, why settle for less?

Victim or victor

Climbing up the success ladder can take its toll on anyone who is part of the so-called rat race. Here’s how it goes, and the operative word is rush:

Early morning meetings = skip breakfast
Office deadlines/paper work = delay/postpone trips to the toilet, eat a quick lunch (sandwich, soda, cookies)
Back-to-back meetings/appointments = no time to take a break, plus tea/coffee galore
Heavy entertainment at night = over consumption of alcohol, rich/fatty meals, late nights

The results are in: Due to a lifestyle characterized by fast foods, pre-packed meals, refined/junk snacks, running back and forth or driving all day, bad posture, shallow breathing, tight/restrictive clothing, built-up tensions, an active member of this demanding, modern world will experience slow-burn symptoms:

Tired, dull, sallow skin, puffy eyes/eye bags, skin blemishes
, breakouts, tiredness/exhaustion, weight gain or loss, migraine/tension headaches.

A continued lifestyle lived in this particular way could lead to diabetes, hypertension, ulcers, fatty liver, heart problems and more.

Stop, look, listen

Like children, we should relearn the ABCs of a moderate lifestyle. Stop when you feel the symptoms, look at yourself in a critical but constructive way and listen to your body/yourself/your doctor.

Do it:
Our bodies require a new spring. As the poetry of Pablo Neruda suggests, we can use a new blossoming.

Listen up:

1. Take control of your life. In short, get it back from the people/work/career that rule it. Apply the brakes once in a while. If you have been flying on fifth gear, move to third. Maintain a speed more in harmony with your health.
Example: If you hang out with party people who are basically nocturnal, and you are a morning person, clearly you are already making undue demands on your body. You can party, but choose the occasion.
2. Cut down on the nibbling/snacking. This leads to weight gain.
3. Cut back on work or pace yourself by not taking on more than you can handle (simply because you want to impress the boss or yourself).
4. Organize your week to include exercise and some relaxation time.
5. Eat healthy foods. Little-known facts are too many tomatoes can be acidic thereby causing indigestion, too much alcohol can raise your blood sugar levels, lack of Vitamin C can cause poor skin, lack of iron can result in anemia, mushrooms (a fungus) every day can disrupt your intestinal bacterial balance, too much orange juice can congest your digestion and tax your liver. Studies have shown that certain food cravings can lead to allergies.

10-day cleansing plan

Day 1: Have a good breakfast. Take a brisk 30-minute walk.
Day 2: Increase you water intake—two glasses of clean water every two hours or one glass every hour—without fail. Drink a vegetable juice (beetroot/carrot) today.
Day 3: Exercise again (walk, swim, play badminton).
Day 4: Lessen the snacking on junk food. Eat healthier snacks like nuts, fruits, multigrain bread.
Day 5: Add more fiber to your diet. Increase vegetables/salad or drink a high-fiber supplement (C-Lium or coconut fiber).
Day 6: Exercise once more. Start lessening red meat/pork meals. Replace with more fish/chicken (minus skin).
Day 7: Have a massage. Relax. Have coffee/tea/juices with friends.
Day 8: Take a break. Watch a funny movie. Have a good laugh with friends.
Day 9: Take a walk in the park. Breathe in the goodness of nature.
Day 10: Make somebody happy today (including yourself).

Daily: Meditate and pray, breathe from your diaphragm, not the lungs. This deep breathing exercise is beneficial to your health. Drink 1-2 tablespoons of virgin coco oil (Splash, Peter Paul). Take your vitamin supplements (Pharmaton, Rogin E or Clusivol, Lifepak-Pharmanex, etc.). Smile whenever you can—make it a habit. Laugh at yourself and don’t be overcritical of yourself.

Beauty regimen

Take a slice of ripe papaya, mash with ¼ cup of milk, rub it on your face, neck, hands and feet. Rinse after five minutes. This ought to smoothen you up.

Energy drink

In a blender, mix one small slice papaya, banana and a half glass buko juice. Drink up!

Affirmation

“I am 100 percent.” Remember, you are only as perfect as you would like to be.

Love and light!
